Title: VR Smelling device hits crowd funding goal
Post by: the-pi-guy on Apr 14, 2019, 03:33 AM
FeelReal VR Scent Mask Blasts Past Crowdfunding Goal in First Day - Road to VR (https://www.roadtovr.com/feelreal-wants-add-smells-haptics-vr-headset-kickstarter-coming-soon/?fbclid=IwAR3QqWD7O0RzImePaxMGrz3o830VpzFxtMW4CaRf53jgsFd1wLOnRdnlvg8)

Feelreal was asking $20,000 to fund its scent/haptic VR headset mask when it launched on Kickstarter April 9th. Within one hour, the campaign was officially funded, and then went on to nearly quadruple its goal within the first day.

At the time of this writing, the campaign is sitting at nearly $89,000; that's not a whole lot in terms of funds needed for product design and delivery, although the company is confident it will be able to deliver to backers in August 2019

I'm still not sold on the whole smelling thing but here we are.

We got sight, sound easy.
Touch and smell on the way.

How soon before we taste the VR?

who cares about smell or taste.  figure out touch and then green light a bad stuff game.   profits would be in the hundreds of billions.

I was literally shocked by reading this thread title. After clicking I see that it is about VR, but I interpreted it as something equivalent to digital eyes for people that have lost their sense of smell.

It's not like it's that big of a deal to be able to smell things, but I just never thought about the fact that with advancing technology that could be a thing of the past. I've spent a lot of time thinking about technology helping blind and deaf people so hmm.

Anyway...

Who cares about smells? I do not want to be playing a game and smelling things. Sure it could be kinda cool for virtual tourism type applications, but almost every game would have unwanted smells.

Sorry!  Fixed the thread title.

Yeah...
I am not ready for it.

Although some day it might be really cool.  Being able to smell virtual cut grass and flowers would be well worth bad smells.

I wonder if some devs would avoid bad smells intentionally though.
