Title: Fish tacos thread of making!
Post by: Mmm_fish_tacos on Nov 12, 2015, 04:03 AM
Most of you know by now I like to mess around a lot with electronics. Moding controllers and making fight sticks. Stuff like that. I've posted about my projects all over the forum but now there's a thread for that! But I don't want this just to be about me. Post your projects here too!

Anyway, While I'm not actually working on something at the moment I am planing a neat project that I don't think anyone's thought of before. I have a pair of Playstation golds and a pair of audio Technica head phones. After switching to audiophile grade head phones the golds sound has become down right dreadful. But there are so convenient and I find my self using them when I play online with friends because it's just easy. And I enjoy the sound of my newest head phones over the audio Technica's. So i have two pairs that i'm unhappy with. My plan is to join ease of use with superior sound. Yeah, I'll transplant the drivers from the audio Technica into the gold's! So I've figured out how to disassemble both sets and made a plan to make this happen. I think it's going to be a Thanksgiving break project. Stay tuned!

Got it build and it's awesome! Way better than stock golds.

Do you have any experience with arduino or raspberry Pi? I dabled with arduino in college but I'm not sure it's strong enough for processing HDMI video.

No, I don't know anything about it.

Yes, your projects can be anything you want them to be.

I feel I stumbled across something great. But it's hard to talk sound with people. They don't understand what they're missing because they've never experienced it before. Kinda wish I had a gaf account so I can throw it out there and get their reactions to it. If I could source these Drivers or something similar I would start making them and selling them.

It's great because you get high end sound in an convenient package and Sonys sound profiles still work. So if you didn't exactly like how they sound you could change them with in reason.

Okay, So i'm going round two on this. This time It's going to be a little different.

I order a pair of Superlux HD 681 head phones. They have a similar sound stage and frequency response that I used in my original mod. But this time I plan to take the ear cups from the golds and put them on the head band of the 681's and then transfer the speakers to the ear cups. Giving you a superior sound stage and a better looking band that will last much longer than the Sony golds will. I have cracks in mine, it's a common problem with Sony's gaming headsets.

Here's a photo of the head phone, just imagine these with the gold's ear cups.

Do you have any experience with arduino or raspberry Pi? I dabled with arduino in college but I'm not sure it's strong enough for processing HDMI video.
I'm actually going to make a project for my grade 12 class using the arduino boards and an led matrix display.

Well I got the donor headphones in and got the ear cups mocked up. Needless to say I'm going to have to over come some issues, but I think I can get it to work.

Got the ear cups modified to fit the head band. I'd post photos but I'm on mobile and can't get the right link. It looks sweet tho.

You know how hard it is to find heat shrink now? So stupid I had to order that from amazon. So that's keeping me from finishing my project tonight.  I was hoping to send it out on Monday but it's not looking like that's going to work out for me now.

What are you thoughts?

Probably going to try to remove the solder from the Playstation Monitor.  When you use a desoldering bulb, after you suck out solder, when you squeeze the bulb to use it again, does the solder eject out of the bulb?

That would be my guess, squeeze the bulb, squeeze over a plate or something to ejected the solder, then go and de solder your next point.

tacos yelled at me so i guess i'll post some details of my game room project.

Here are some pics of the current state of my new game room in my new home:
(http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m543/kitler53/IMG_4101_zpsiwhzeiyt.jpg)   (http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m543/kitler53/IMG_4102_zpsf9w2kgyl.jpg)

as you can see it is very very red.  that will have to change.  i wanted to go a dark blue but i couldn't fix my old game room couch in this room (the legs are not removable and i literally can't fit it though the door) so i'm inheriting the one we use to have in the living room.  that couch i green so i'm going to go with a dark green color.

I had to do some basic electric work.  seriously,.. who the fudge paints the power outlets?!?!

The windows had to be updated to.  Left is the holes from removing the curtains.  right is a view of me removing the grid things from the inside of the windows.  easy projects but oh boy did it look like crud before.
(http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m543/kitler53/IMG_4104_zps1jri0bco.jpg)   (http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m543/kitler53/IMG_4107_zpslj9msqem.jpg)

here is the untampered front room to give you an idea of how this room used to look.

the picture doesn't show much but i rewired the lights from a single pole with a dimmer configuration to a 3-pole with dimmer configuration.  it was weird and awkward to me that you couldn't turn the light on when entering the room.

I like this photo.  The rug the size of the entire floor space in my last game room back at the condo.  I like tight/cosy spaces and i was happy to have a small room but this room is still a lot bigger and game like wii-sports or whatever simply couldn't be played.  this room should be accommodating to some degree of motion gaming and seated vr i suppose.

my next project is to punch a hole in the wall and run an ethernet cord into the room.  the wifi is just way too far away to get a decent signal.  the modem is in the basement directly below this room so it should be too bad of a project.  the hardest part will be fishing the wire up from the basement while doing the work myself.  this is one of those things where a second set of hands would be greatly appreciated.

after that,.. painting.

So i'm redoing my kitchen (contractors,.. not me):

and one of the things we did to get more out of our small kitchen is move the garage door from the middle of the kitchen to the living room.  Thing is the new door is in the exact spot that my high speed internet and tv were wired to.  Contractors refused to do the job (claim to be unqualified) so i took on the job myself.

I moved the internet moved from where the door is to the bookshelf just to the left of the fireplace.

rewiring a house with walls in place isn't always easy so i cut open the conduit to the power outlet already in my book shelf, installed a box so i could splice in the ethernet cable, and fished it up from there.

that meant i could install the ethernet just above the existing power outlet (not a bad place for it).  This is where my tv, router, and second ps4 will be installed.
exiting power outlet on bottom.  new ethernet on top.

in doing this project i upgrade from ACC to pure copper ethernet cable.  it is a pretty long cable i'm running (~120 ft),.. the new cable gets almost double the speed out of it meaning i get almost my full 30 mbs instead of 15-16 mbs.   i'm happy!

I never said how my LED Matrix project went.  The LED's needed more power than the Arduino could push out.  I was also researching and you could better control the board with a demux or a shift register.  But I'm not sure how the shift register works.

So i was messing around with wrap I used to cover my desk. and decied to make a vacuum forming box out of a small amazon box to vacuum form the material to the controller. It worked a bit better than when I tried to wrap on by hand and instantly too with out any air bubbles. It was a fun project, still didn't come out well enough to use it though... Oh well. This would probably work really well with an xbox one controller though.

Yeah, but it wont form to the controller without cutting slits in the material which makes it look bad. There is way too many curves to make this work well.

I think after I finish my desk and get my stuff moved into the game room I'm going to start on a buster sword.

This one is the coolest I've found but It's made of solid metal. I really don't want a 150 pound sword though. Mine will be made from plastics and woods. Probably with metal bits.

So after a bunch of frustration I've manage to get the top to my fightstick design mostly modeled in fusion 360. I've used parameters for everything. So on the fly I can change the button spacing the ark of the button and their hole size as well as material thickness. Now on to the rest of the box!

So I added a bore for the back side of the button, So I could use clip in buttons. I extruded it like this. -thickness/2. Which at the time seemed to be the right thing to do. That's before I realized the snap in area had to remain the same thickness no matter how thick of a material I used. I'm not sure how to do that, anyone have an Idea?

The blue area is the area I'm trying to make constant no matter the thickness of the material.
Title: Re: Fish tacos thread of fiddling.
Post by: Mmm_fish_tacos on May 25, 2016, 04:42 AM
Okay, I got it. Because I already screwed up and probably didn't model the bore in the most efficient way I did it like this after setting up a new parameter for the button bore. -thickness/2+button_bore. Worked perfectly, now it will keep the same thickness around the button no matter what material thickness I choose.

Do the madcatz layout.  It's the most flexible.  You can get proper SNK and Tekken layout with it.  You can "almost" get Capcom's layout.  Did you end up giving up on wiring the dualshock 4?

Pretty much. It's such a pain in the dog. The hardest controller I've ever tried to mod. I actually had my best results taping wires to the plastic traces. But it wasn't something I would trust for a long time use. Besides that new pbc is out and I think that would take care of it all.

Yeah, I have a feeling Horizon is going to be popular for makers. I tried to see if anyone has a model of it yet and I can't find one. Wait for the game to come out and I'm sure they'll start popping up around the net.

If you're 3D printing, remember to fillet all of the edges. Makes things so much nicer and saves a lot of time vs sanding.

I still need to box the joystick, but I need to take measurements first. I boxed the buttons because it's going to be made (at least I think it will) for half inch thick material. I want snap in buttons and the boxed area give room for you fingers to pop buttons out and making the surface the right thickness for the button to snap in. I'm making a render now, once it done i'll post it.

Here it is in translucent green. I'm doing another render now in a blue.

No.  A full upward arc was never used in the arcade until very late by snk.  But at that point the had already used straight with a button down for a while.  Plus Street Fighter was straight in the U.S. and a rainbow pattern in Japan.

This is the japanese layout: (http://junkerhq.net/Japan/ClubSega3.jpg)

This is U.S.:

This is the old snk:

You get almost all those layouts with the madcatz.  They have the layout at Slagcoon

So this is a render of the box I worked on today. It's simple but should be cheap to produce. I added the buttons and the stick to flesh the whole thing out, but for some reason when I moved them into the new model it locked them so I couldn't modify the color's or even move the dust washer in place. Anyway.

No, I've been trying to figure out how he wired it.  I thought you'd might wanna look at it since you wanted to make something like this.

Yeah, My guess is he's one of the few that can actually solder it. Unless He got the Idea i had working. Which maybe I should give another shot. I might just need a redesign, clamping the wires in place should work considering that's how it actually works in Sony Design.

Let me know how it goes.

There should be parts on the PCB that you can solder to make a connection for the button.  But I didn't see any good diagrams for it.

So I started modeling a ship from Wip3out the Feisar concept one. I think I bit off more than I could chew. It seemed so simple yet there's a million lines on this craft.  Never knew it was this complex until I started to try to 3d model it. My original plan was to print blue prints from fusion 360 that I could transfer to Foam core and have me a one foot Foam core ship. But I think I'll have to boil this thing down quite a bit in order to achieve that.

So I have almost everything figured out.
Just need to buy a couple more things.

I also need to figure out a switch that I can put on a USB cable.
Battery -> USB -> switch -> micro USB-> Pi

The issue is that I can't really find those.  The top one that I have there ^ is exactly what I need, except it is waaay too long.
The bottom one is the right length, but it's male to female.  :P

Apparently the OS comes with a version of Minecraft.  :o
I'm pretty excited.  A lot of potential for stuff here.

If I really wanted to get into stuff, I could potentially even make my own OS, emulator for it.  Don't know if I'll really end up doing any of that, but it'd be really cool and make for great experience.

Formatted the SD card, and rewrote the OS on it. It's all up and running now.

This is really fricken cool.  I basically built a touch screen computer for 80$.  That's madness.

Thats what I did. I program C++ and I take my RP 3 B on the road to do so. It works as a media player sort of. I had trouble with video playback over the internet, such as youtube. It had pretty high lag, so I would recommend using OpenELEC as a duel OS system. At least that is what I had the best luck with, as it comes with Kodi, which is a pain in the arse to download on Raspbian. Kodi allows for efficient pirating of media.

The low cost shows with the relatively bad CPU and GPU, which I had trouble with running anything over the n64 at full speed. We will have to wait for a few years before gamecube emulation, but what we have now is still fine.

3D Printing Price Check - compare 3D printing prices for FDM, SLS, DMLS, Polyjet, metals, and more from eight vendors (and counting) (http://3dprintingpricecheck.com/)

I was not even quite half way done, and it was about 28$ minimum through shapeways.

Need about 3 cm for the battery, plus about 2-3 cm for the controller parts.
So it's about 6 cm tall.

Looks really uncomfortable, but I don't think it'll be that bad.  I'm comparing it to the box the screen came in, wasn't too bad.

Shapeways is the best 3D printing for price vs quality.

However you could try 2D laser cutting your box. Break it up into 6 sides and it'd be super cheap.

What do you think guys?

I agree with this.  When I was researching broken PS3's one thought was how could the solder be broken when the PS3 never gets hot enough to warp/break the solder.  I'm not saying it can never happen, but it shouldn't.  So I think all those YLOD PS3s have broken GPUs.  Which I think you might actually be able to buy from China for like 10 bucks.

But this one guy build a hell of a machine. I'm just wondering how big you can make it before sag takes over. Right now the build plate isn't big enough for me to consider it a true cnc machine.

Well I didn't get the models that the book said the SD card had, I had no way to know what I was printing. So I just picked on and printed it. Turns out my first print was a piece of doll house furniture. It looks like it would benefit greatly from the stiffing mod, but honestly the photo make it worst than it actually is. I didn't even notice the imperfections till I load the photo on my computer screen. For 320 bucks i'm quite impressed.

Well after 3 failed prints with ABS I think I finally got one that's going to work. It seems a raft is superior to a brim for my printer. The only problem with a raft is you won't get that nice shiny side. And I'll have to move it to the garage for ABS printing. It smells.

Here is the successful ABS prints I did yesterday. Each on got better. I'm have a little bit of ghosting problems but I'm in the process of printing out the stiffener mod for my printer which should help with that. If not i'll have to slow the printer down some more.

These are todays prints. And it rained today, It seems even though the ABS was in a totally safe are it still picked up some moisture. Towards the end of the print the plastic started popping and you can see it in the print. But it's still nice and strong. I hope I dont have to dry out my abs. 2 hours in the oven on the lowest setting with the door cracked open. I really don't want to do that. I'd be tempted just to buy another roll. Or move over to some black PLA to finsh off the print which doesn't suffer from the same flaws as ABS. But ABS is a much stronger plastic.. Anyway, Here's the prints.

Yeah ABS plastics tend to take a while to get a perfect balance of what is needed to get perfect prints.  I mainly just use PLA as mines just a mini printer, but they have ABS plastic that is supposedly not supposed to smell. But it only works for their printers.

I've never tried ABS, but my professor always said it's usually not worth it unless you really want to take the time to get it right.  I've been using flexible PLA plastic which is really cool cause you can alter the flexibility by changing the infill of the print.

Well I'm about to build my cnc machine. It's looking like it will be awhile before I can get the one I really want So i'll use my 3d printer to print out the parts for the MPCNC. I wish the information for the machine was better organized. But I'll get thru it. I think cost of the machine should come in well under 300 bucks. I just hope it's good enough to do what I need it to do. Other besides the weather The main problem i'm having with starting today is I only have black ABS or wood PLA. He suggest using PLA over ABS for quite a few reasons, but my wood PLA is almost twice the cost of normal colored PLA. So I think i'll order a new roll. Which should put me starting in Wednesday. Does anyone have any color suggestions. I'm thinking Red, Blue or Black. Possible Orange. What are you thoughts?

I think after I get the better machine I'll use this one to make boxes and put my logo on the outside.

The one thing about ramping up for home manufacturing is the process is slow. Building my own machines takes time, which give me time to do other things. Like Clean out all the junk I've stored on my PC and and organize it. Which is one of the things I love about home manufacturing to begin with. It make it so you can (maybe) make some extra cash, and still have time to do other things. While the machines are working away.

Anyway, here's this morning prints for the machine.

So I tried doubling the speed of the printer. Tripling it in some areas. And it's pretty decent.

What do you know. For the most part it looks just like my other prints. Not to bad. With a few exceptions.

This happened on both sides, Which I think will make this part unusable, That's where the bolt goes and I'm sure it will break either when installing the bolt or shortly after.

And this, Which is weird because the printer should have slown down in that area.

I'm trying a test to increase temp and flow now. I hope I can get back up to this printing speed. It cuts print times in half. Which is great.

I had a hard time coming up with a name for it. Then I started watching tested and realized there's a whole maker movement so i changed the title to better fit that.

I can solder them back on.  I'm just weighing in on whether it's worth the effort.  I might donate it to the school I'm working at for the computer engineering course.  I seriously couldn't get the D-pad back together for that one.  Which is weird considering the good one I wanted to put the better analogue stick in, went back together pretty nicely.

You know I was just about to post saying too many! And that's my problem. I did take like a 3 week break from everything because I had too much other stuff going on, but now I'm back at it.

I got my Game/office/design lab room going now. I've been scraping off god awful texture in that room, I spent all day doing that yesterday.

I'm also build a cnc machine. I just got back on that today after spending 2 hours fine tuning my printer in fact here's a photo!

I'm also designing Arcade stick boxes that I hope to sell online. That's why I need the cnc.

Geeze I'm sure I've got other projects that I'm forgetting about. But Remodeling my master bath and building my workshop in the garage is on the list of things to do.

The conversion needs the battery gone so it missing isn't an issue.

Sort of. They're all capable of doing the samething. Its just some are a lot better than others. This one is about as basic as it gets. If i ever have money to spend again ill get an x carve.

Inventables (https://www.inventables.com)
That looks like a nice bit of kit. How much would you have to save to get something like that?

I don't actually have it, it's on ebay.  I wouldn't need a battery, I'd be converting it into a multi board.  I have to take out all the roms and put this thing on top: Amazing way to create your own multi CPS-2 system brought to us by DARKSOFT (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/multi-pcbs/1616-darksoft-cps2-multi-kit.html)

I was wondering if you think the acid might have damaged something else on the board.  Like, CPS2 boards don't "need" the battery.  They only need the battery for the encryption keys.  Which, in my case, I wouldn't really care about.

Made some progress on the wall smoothing today. I got in there about two weeks ago and started scraping all the crud off the walls. Untill I screwed my back up hard core.  I'm able to get back at it. I hope I can spend a few hours a night doing it till i'm done. Then I'll rip up the carpet and I'm thinking about doing an epoxy floor in there for now. Could be cool and my chair will roll easily.

Yeah, Waiting my my PSU from amazon and the rest of the crud from the guy that designed the printer. Also need to make a bed carriage. Which I'm taking cnc classes over the next few days and will have access to a large cnc machine to cut it out. So I should have that done this weekend if I'm not too tired to make it up to the Fab lab.

I dont think it will. It seems that if I'm reading it right the spacing is .01 mm off.  Then again it's cheap enough you can try and force it. It might go. But with so many pins it might be tough.

I got the parts in.  The housing fits.  I haven't gotten my jamma harness in yet to test it though.  I was going to make it a plug and play for each board (I have a CPS2 and a CPS3 coming in), but the male housing is pretty garbage for the female header I'll see what to do later.

I accidentally had the sparkfun ATX bench board on when I plugged the pico power supply into it.  Either the PSU fried or the AC connector fried.  I doubt the AC connector fried.  It was weird cause the 3.3v and the 5v rail were working right.  The 12v rail was going at 19v.  I turned it off and unplugged it.  It won't go on now.  I might have to order a legit one from the pico's website.  Mine came from an electronic store.

Turns out the laptop charger I bought was 19v output.  It's why the bench board read the 12V as 19.  But I'm still not sure why it stopped working when I turned off the PSU.  The guy who I was talking to said it was the fuses, but the fuses are rated for 5A and the charger gives out 3.34A.  So the benchtop power board should be fine.  The PSU isn't though, and he said he's not going to give me a new one.  I don't know if I should get a legit one with the proper power brick (I"m bringing the laptop one back).  Though, I was looking at the fuses and none of them look burnt.  I wish I had an ATX PSU lying around to test the benchtop with.  Is there a way to test fuses?  Like, can I check resistance or something through them?

If using the multimeter to measure ohms, the reading should match (or nearly match) the one provided when you touched the two leads. If the fuse is blown, it will not read anything at all, or the meter will display O.L. depending on the brand and type of meter you are using. If using a digital multimeter set to measure continuity, the meter should beep continuously as you hold the leads to the ends of the fuse. That means the circuit is complete. If it does not do so, the fuse is blown

Yeah I measured the fuses.  They're fine.  It's the PSU.  I might order another one.  I'm still deciding if I should waste the space and get an arcade PSU.  Though I honestly don't like the way the AC input and DC output are on the same side.  Makes wiring really weird.  I was contemplating making a two story housing out of plexiglass to mount everything.  I had everything setup nicely though.  I might see if I can find fuses that handle 6 amps.  CPS2 boards need:
The CPS-II will draw appx. 3.5 A from +5 V.

* The CPS-II will draw appx. 0.4 A from +12 V.

* The JROK draws about 0.2 A from +5 V.

* A typical +12 V fan draws about 0.1 A.

The whole thing needs 4.2 amps so the benchtop might not be able to handle the power draw since CPS2 boards pull in more power at start up and everything might spike higher than 5V.  Though there isn't a power supply that the pico psu that would match.  I'd still need 5V.  Decisions decisions.

One more question Tacos, I was measuring the LED.  Can LEDs be tested by measuring resistance?  I wanted to see if the LED was burned (It looks fine.)  When I tested resistance it wasn't giving me 0.  It was giving me the O.L

Yeah it works.  The LED I'm testing isn't working, but it's not burned out either.  So I was wondering if testing resistance through an LED is the right way of testing.

How much would printing something and sending it here cost me?  I kind of want a case for my supergun.

How much would I have to pay you to make and send it?
I could do 10 plus shipping.

Do you have an STL file? It really depends on how long it take to print.

Hey Tacos, I realized I'll have to use the same 5V on the benchtop to power the VGA adapter and my controller converters.  Will sharing the 1 rail with 4 devices work?  The Jamma harness I bought has all the power lines connected to itself.  So I can't siphon from the harness I have to get it from the power supply.  I can always cut up the sata and ide power cords that came with the power supply, but I think the 1 screw terminal on the bench would be a better solution.

It's hard to say. If 5v is all you have and your 4 devices what to pull more than 5v at once then you'll have issues. As long as you stay under that I think you'll be fine.

Do you have links to the stuff your working with?

Okay so I powered on my board for the first time yesterday.  The fan started so I'm assuming it's working.  The controller adapters might not be working though.  I have them plugged in, but the LED isn't turning on.  Power is going to them, but I might just have to plug a controller in for them to work.  Either that or they were very sensitive and static shock killed them (I doubt).  I bought the wrong VGA cables, so I can't fully test everything yet.  I will later today when I buy the proper female to female.

Got my new printer in on friday, and got it built up and running prints. This thins is amazing.

I've done several prints so far, including an 12 hour job and not a single issue or failure. Printing some the nicest parts I've seen.

My other Printers can print really nice parts too. But I usually have to fight with them to get them going correctly. This on I just press print and walk away.

My CPS3 board I bought is way smaller than I was expecting. I was hoping to put my supergun on top of it.  Looks like it won't fit.
Title: Re: Fish tacos thread of making!
Post by: darkknightkryta on Aug 15, 2017, 09:00 PM
Okay I sorted my VGA cable issue.  I turned on my supergun for the first time annnnnndd... nothing.  No input.  I have a suspicion that it's the VGA converter.  It needs 2A.  CPS2 needs 3.4A, my power supply is rated for 5.  5.4 vs 5.  I unplugged my controller decoders to see if that would save some current.  I got a pink screen after I had it auto detect.  I'm going to buy a dedicated power supply for the video converter tomorrow.  I tried running the CPS2 board buy itself without the video converter to see if the stereo jacks work, but I don't think my VGA to HDMI adapter will work without the VGA sending in a video.  So I can't really test for sure to see if the board is working right.

Hmm, I was actually looking at my power supply, it's rated for 13 amps and the ac/dc adapter is 6 amps.  My benchtop has 5 amp fuses.  The fuses didn't blow, so it's fine, so I'm not sure if it's the current anymore.

Never mind, I had it set to AC when I was measuring the current.  When I switched it to DC the power supply shut off.  Not sure why, since I didn't have the video converter plugged in and the board only takes 3.4 amps.  So 5A should have enough head room before the fuses do anything.  I'll still try getting a separate plug for the video converter and see if that works.

Ugh, nothing's working!  I think I have to buy an arcade power supply.  The dedicated power supply didn't work.  When I plug in my CPS2 board my voltage drops to 4.3V which isn't enough to drive the board.  I also get no current when I test the jamma harness.  So annoying.

I'm going to drop by the electronic store tomorrow and see if they have those adjustable power supplies that look like the arcade ones.  Like, there are the arcade ones, and there's the ones that look identical to them.  As long as I can adjust the voltage and current it should be fine.  I guess I'll also pick up a project box while I'm there for everything.  Is a dremel the only way to cut through plastic?  I want to make mounting ports, but I need to cut holes into the plastic.

If it's a normal drywal knife it isn't going to work.  Got to your hardware store and see if you can find a thin fine tooth jig saw blade. That will work better.

Honestly I'm just running more tests on the thing to see if I can get it working.  The guy who sold it to me was adamant that he tried it before he sent it.  But I honestly don't believe him.  Talking to the FGC community, the guy is reputable enough.  I was going to ask for a refund soon though if I can't get it to boot.  I personally think he got his boards confused when he was testing them, since this is one of his doubles.

No I gave it back.  I kept getting red/black screens even though my other 4 boards were working.  I pulled off the roms to try my multi kit, but the kit wouldn't fit in.  The seller agreed to take the the board back.  I put the roms back in and I tested it one more time, I ended up getting a picture, but the jumpers were all set wrong.  That "might" have been the issue it might not have.  It wasn't worth me figuring it out when it should have been working from the get go.

Yeah.  I printed the top on Friday.  I picked it up now.  I used a Chinese "supergun" from eBay for the screw terminals.  The only problem is that the card edge reader is way to tight.  I'm also iffy on my pico psu.  It's reading 5.07V.  It's within tolerance I'm just worried it will go higher so I might order one from the U.S.  Next will be making a case for my Jrok video encoder.

I got it working and I got it connected to my school's wifi (I was having issues with connecting, had to change a file).  I also got hello world working in C.  I'm going to try programming the pins later.  I want to try to use it to interface any controller to an arcade machine.

my latest project.  took my all last summer to remove the top 16 inches of ground to remove the dense clay and replace it with topsoil.  took me 2 and a half days this spring to build the raise bed garden with removable rabbit fence.  my wife dang well better plant a garden this year...

I kind of want to build an entertainment center....

Have it so that it has some good baby proofing features to boot.

I did that years ago.  Still use it.

So I started making my own RGB to YPbPr converter.  Holy shame I should have chose different chips.  They were so tiny.  I tried tracing some of them and I'm not confident that they're not bridged.  The smallest one I needed to solder, I did today, but it's pretty off.  It's not bridged, but they're connected to the embedded wires instead of the pad.  I checked each pins to see if they're bridged, they're not, but when I was looking at the capacitors, they're all connected, but that should be right now that I'm thinking about it.  And dang that chip was tiny.  The second tiny chips, I have one of them slightly off, so pins are slightly connected to each other.  There's 7 million ohms between them, so hopefully my physics is right and electrons will take the path of least resistance.  I have the chips in, it's time to get the potentiometer in.  I'm going to do the resistors next, then the capacitors.  Those will be easier, since surface mount resistors and capacitors aren't that bad to solder.  I'm also not grounded, so I might have killed the chips with static electricity.  Testing this thing is going to be "fun".

Me and my dad started on my cab.  I picked up a Sega Astro City cab.  The control panel was cracked.  We fixed it with a fiberglass body fix.  We're still not sure if we should brace the control panel with a brace or let the fiberglass try.  I put some bondo on the outside and sanded it down.  The T.V. and speaker is going to be a pain.  I acquired a 27inch Wega.  I'm happy in not RGB modding it.  I'm going to get my consoles hooked up to it which gives me time for me to figure out my video converter that I'm working on above.  I have to find a way to get the front T.V. control panel out.  Or find a way to extend the IR sensor and buy a remote.  I'm also scared no nuggets.  It's been unplugged for a year, but still, the capacitors tend to charge themselves from the air.  I also need to buy an amp to connect to the speakers.  We will probably start painting the thing in the next few days.

I bought a GPIO extender chip for my raspberry Pi.  I had a feeling that arcade boards send out 5V from the buttons, but I didn't get that confirmed until recently.  My idea of using shift registers won't work since I can't send 3.3V up to the board from the Pi to register a no command.  I'm going to try  switching pins from read to ground (Write 0) to register a button press.  I can't send 5V to the Pi's pins, but the chip I'm using can handle 5V when it's powered by a 5V power supply so that would save me from figuring out the resistors I would need.  If that doesn't work period, then I have to do a register to transistor array.  Which will be annoying since the most I could find for a transistor array is 7 transistors.  I need 32, so that's 5 chips.  Plus the shift registers.  I'm looking at a big package for a 64 bit register plus the 5 transistor array chips.  Annoying.

Update to my projects:

Video Converter:
I put together another one that would hopefully work on consoles (Need to make an adapter somehow).  It didn't work, no green.  I then ordered the converter in parts to put it together.  I didn't put the converter part together yet, but I had an older one laying around, one that I used to test my circuit and it worked.  So I tested the pieces together and it worked.  I have no idea what was wrong with the previous prototype.  Literally.  The circuit is the same, except I had an extra 75 ohm to ground that I didn't need.  But not having it in didn't affect the circuit.  So I'm going to order another one soon, but I sitll don't know why the old one didn't work in the first place.  Still need to put together my composite/s-video converter to try.

Controller Converter:
As mentioned in the programming thread, I got a proof of concept working with a Raspberry Pi.  Raspberry Pis still can't be bought.  So I switched over to to a PS2/PSX adapter.  I got the chip programmed, but I still can't get a program on it.  So that sucks for me.  I might have to buy another programmer.

4 years too late but as a builder I appreciate this.

Was a good day outside so I went back to the retaining wall I built for my mom. She wants it filled solid for extra strength so I put in another 2 thousand pounds of concrete and it's still not full. It feels like I'm building the hoover dam!

Wait, this thread can be about food!?

Never thought about making homemade fig newtons before.

i made it didn't i?

don't know what fish intended by this thread.   ...and i cook a lot and wouldn't normally post about it but i was particularly happy with how this one turned out and i figured this thread made more sense than starting a new one.   unless you want to make a dedicated cooking thread.   i suppose i could post in that quite often as i take on a new something or other every month or two.

but yeah, posted the fig newtons because i figured it was a pretty uncommon thing to even try.   ...and the recipe was top notch.   it was strange,.. the final product is very cake like but the dough is very much like cookie dough.   there is a mandatory step to put the cookies directly into a air tight container after the oven to "rehydrate" the cookie or else it is really dry and gross.   overall not particularly hard but one of my quirkiest recipes i've made.

i did overfill though.  the final cookies were like twice the size of store bought.   i think i'd try to shrink that down if i do it again.

Yes, your projects can be anything you want them to be.
directly from fish himself,.. cooking projects are allowed!!

All but done redoing my parents' patio. Most of the bricks could be reused but they wanted to expand the patio so they bought 1,000 new bricks.

i had another "work weekend" to work on the house.   4 days without kids/wife around to distract me.   I didn't take any pics but:

1. I retrimmed the entire downstairs.
  - It don't know that it had to be done but it was a personal annoyance that there was 4 styles of trim.  not just different rooms either.  they touched.
2. i stripped the paint off my stairs and replaced the decorative trim.
  - was just old and painted too many times.  looked bad.
3. painted the living room and family room
  - 14' ceilings in the family room were a challenge.
4. painted the ceilings in living room, dining room, and kitchen.

plus a handful of little things like i cleaned the ceiling fan in the family room since i borrowed an extra tall ladder to do the painting.  holy crud that was gross.

overall i'm freaking exhausted.  i attempted too much for 4 days.  but my house looks nice overall.  only problem was i intended to (and didn't start) to paint the trim.  so now i have to do that on nights/weekends because my wife will kill me if i leave that for next year's work weekend.

Turns out my component converters didn't work cause I didn't connect the audio jacks.  Said audio jacks were connecting the ground for the video jacks.
:D ... :'( :'( :'( :'(
