Title: Christmas TV and Gaming thread!
Post by: darkknightkryta on Dec 02, 2014, 01:37 PM

It's that time of year!  This thread is where we're going to talk about our favourite (Or not so favourite) Christmas shows, movie, or games.  I'm gonna set up a list here of stuff for people to look at when they're in the mood to watch/play something.  I'll keep updating as people mention stuff.

I was going to try to organize this into a table, but tables don't work well on these forums.  Gonna layout it out via lists! Episodes will be under the titles

T.V. Shows:
Batman TAS
-Christmas with the Joker, Holiday Knights
Power Puff Girls
-Twas the Night Before Christmas
Justice League
-Comfort and Joy

Movies:
A Muppets Christmas Carol
Frozen
Mickey's Christmas Carol
A Flinstones Christmas Carol
Muppet Family Christmas
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Frosty the Snowman
Christopher the Christmas Tree
Charlie Brown Christmas Special
Batman Returns

Games:
Batman: Arkham Origins

Once I'm done with Super Mario 64, Breath of Fire III and Xenoblade - my playing list will change to.....

-Final Fantasy Legend III (GB/C)
-Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix (PS3)
-Pokemon Omega Ruby (3DS)
-Super Smash Bros (WiiU)

Also in terms of movies I'm planning to watch Frozen :O

i've been thinking about this for a while now,..  i think it is kind of a big fail that video games doesn't have any xmas themed games.   there are maybe a few halloween games but no xmas.  why is games the only media that doesn't really have things catering to the holidays.

hey legend,.. if you want to make another game after vizioneck make it a xmas game.

Yeah, there's quite a bit of halloween styled games (Medievil, Jersey Devil, Festival of Blood, Zombie everything, soon to be released Bloodborne), yet other than Arkham Origins, I'm drawing a blank.

Hoping to finish both Breath of Fire III and Xenoblade before the week of Christmas (which I plan to go all out on Pokemon Omega Ruby and Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 HD remixes).

I know the games dont have anything to do with Christmas...well except for Kingdom Hearts which has Nightmare before Christmas :O

Watched Christmas with the Joker.  Good way to start off.  Still makes me laugh by how absurd it was.  What with the giant canon trying to kill Batman, and those flying toys with Joker heads.

Just watched Rudolph Saves The New Year. It was probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The writers AND producers must have been high when they made it. Cause that movie was worse than stuff people make nowadays on Youtube.

Yeah that's the New Years one, unless there's another one.  I remember watching that one when I was younger.  I liked it then.  Can't say I'd like it now.  Also, I never watched the original Rudolph one.

Naw. Baby New Year runs off cause everyone laughs at his ears. And then Rudolph decides to not fly just cause the plots dumb. And then he rides a whale with a clock for a tale around to all these weird islands that are supposed to be years. He also keeps getting attacked by a vulture the size of a house, and it likes to just float in air cause the animators were terrible. Rudolph's nose also doubles as a laser.

It's just bad.

You and your super computer.
I wanted to make a new build, but the skylake i7s are just hella expensive here in Canada ($506).
You wouldn't happen to know of the cheaper Xeon Skylake equivalent would you?

Honestly, i'd avoid skylake entirely, they seem to have issues with fragility, with certain coolers bending the base of the cpu.
i wouldnt go with a xeon for gaming! and good xeons are even more expensive than skylake cpus

They can be, equivalent Xeons should be cheaper since they don't have any GPUs (Though this may not be true now).

The Xeons usually prioritize certain things, they are pretty much made for servers and will often have more cores, lower clock.

I know.  Doesn't mean they're not useful.  But alas, we should continue this discussion in the PC thread.  There needs to be more Christmas here.  Which reminds me, I should probably watch Holiday Knights.

So I decided to give Arkham Origins a go last night... it broke my Skullcanyon :'( .  I honestly don't think I'm allowed to finish the game (The game killed my PS3).  I might just put in Batman Returns on SNES.

So I wanted to buy the Beauty and the Beast Christmas Special on PSN, but it was 20 bucks.  It was on YTV, so that worked out.  Though there's still one more.

They actually played this right after Beauty and the Beast, but with kids doing the singing and acting.

Christmas with the Joker is tonight.  Second favourite special.  I'm sad cause I haven't watched Muppets Christmas Carol yet.  I normally watch it after I put up the Christmas tree.  I didn't have the time this year :(.  I think I'm going to pick up the Bluray for the Batman movies.  I wanna watch Batman Returns.

I watch what I can.  It's just I have to watch the Muppets Christmas Carol.  It's not Christmas until I do.  That and Christmas with the Joker.  The rest I watch what I can.  I also change it up too.  Watched the Barbie stuff, just finished Mickie's Once Upon a Christmas.  Watching Justice League Comfort and Joy now.  It's just that I'm writing up exams since they're due after the break.  So I'm playing things in the background while I work.

So I finished watching that Justice League Christmas special from the animated series.  Probably going to play some Arkham Origins tonight for a bit.  Might watch Mickie's Christmas Carol on Saturday if I have time.  Then A Muppets Christmas Carol on Sunday.  Will probably watch that Daffy Duck Christmas Carol that they made a few years back on Cartoon Network (More like a decade I think), Holiday Knights from the rebound episodes of Batman the Animated Series, Christmas with the Morlocks (X-men TAS), I think I see another Christmas Special in my stack of DVDs I bought from HMV years ago.  Probably a few other things and then Christmas with the Joker for Christmas Eve.  I'll probably try to get some gameplay time from Batman Returns SNES throughout the week.  Watch the Christmas Specials of Futurama next Friday with my classes.  I'll probably watch Christopher the Christmas Tree if I can find it.  Maybe a Barbie Christmas special for @Legend and since I have a nostalgia for playing Maximum Carnage one Christmas Eve before I went to midnight mass, when I was probably in grade 5 or 6, I'll be playing Maximum Carnage.  I actually bought a copy off of ebay for SNES for the occasion (I had played it on the Genesis when I was younger.)  Oh and I watched one Christmas episode from 6teen.  I was shocked when I saw that it was made in 2004.  I was in like first year of university.  I never watched it much, but I enjoyed it every now and then, I remember my friend used to watch it every so often too.

I finished watching Bah Hamduck (Looney Toons Christmas Carol from a few years back).  Wasn't very good.  Though I went to go look up Legend Alaskey as I remember him voicing Bugs Bunny and Daffy.  He didn't do Bugs in this one for whatever reason.  Did Daffy.  Turns out he died like 2 years ago.  O_O

Kinda sad now, cause he voiced Bugs in Tiny Toons and I loved that show.

not sure what mulan has to do with xmas...

...but yes.  watched both this weekend.   i've seen bits and pieces of elf before but this is my first time watching it start to finish.  pretty good but at the same time i feel like the hype for this movie is a bit extreme.   it's a wonderful idea for a movie but i feel like it could have been executed better.    ....but maybe it's a bit of me watching the movie for the first time 17 years late.  and i still think she's hot but oh my was zooey deschanel hot in this movie.

last christmas was critically trashed but has a high user rating on rotten tomatoes (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/last_christmas_2019).  i'm not quite sure why the critical reception was soo bad because personally i thought it was great.  I highly appreciate it had some originality to it unlike most xmas movies these days that are just modernized takes of the classics like "the christmas carol" or "it's a wonderful life".  emilia clark had a great performance.   not in the competition for my favorite xmas movies ever but certainly in the 2nd teir.

my only problem with it is...

when I was a kid my mom would put 6 movies into the dvd player and we were forced to watch them all.  it was a horrible experience but I had a very unloving family so I suppose it was better than having to interact with them.

I made a joke about it to my wife and my kids latched onto it as the best thing ever...

 1. yogi bear Xmas
2. flintstone Xmas carol
3. xmas yoga
4. aurthur xmas

so we only got to 4 as a family.   ...by my wife and i watch xmas chronicles 2 in the evening.

a pretty popular thing for families to do during the pandemic is yoga.   there are loads of them but this is one of the most popular channels:

she tells a story using using popular kids franchises (frozen, trolls, minecraft...) and as part of the story you do the "corresponding" yoga move.  my kids love it.   they wanted to watch the holiday episode:

muppets is one of the best retelling of a Xmas carol but spirited isn't exactly a retelling.  yes it pays homage to it but also does its own thing. I'd personally put spirited higher but a lot of that is for not simply rehashing the same story over again.

not Soo good you should sub to apple+ for it but if you have apple+ it's a must watch holiday film of the season.

Finished Holiday Knights.  You know, I miss the 90s cartoons.  There was this childish comedy to it that's missing from things today.  Like, Harley and Ivy controlled Bruce to take them Christmas shopping.  He managed to get away and chase them as Batman.  As they were driving away unaware, Ivy asked Harley what they should do next and Harley was looking out the back window of the car and was like "Anything as long as it's away from that guy."  Ivy realizing she was talking about Batman, turns around, and they both hug each other and yell "AHHHHHH!"  The joke is that Harley knew it was Batman but didn't realize it was Batman.

I watched Scrooge 1970 again. Then I watched Miracle on 34th street 1947 in black and white.

Which versions/remakes of these films do all yall consider the definitive edition?

I also watched White Christmas.

well I've watched all my regular shows this year plus a few new one.

spirited was great.

just finished the Jimmy Fallon "five sleeps till Christmas" and it was pretty good.

Robin Robin was probably more "winter" than Xmas but I really liked it.

I forget it's name but the ROM com on Netflix starring Lindsay Lohan was good too.

Finished Batman Returns.  Still as amazing as the day it was released.  I'll say though, I never really appreciated Selena going crazy when I was younger.
