I haven't seen the new season yet, but I really appreciate that Futurama has relatively consistent characters.
It bugs me a lot when I get into a show and a character becomes exclusively a trope. Like when a dumb character just becomes a dumber character and that's the entire depth to them. Or when the trope of everyone hates this character, becomes the only reason why that character even comes up.
Fry is a dumb character, and a lot of similar shows would just make that all he is. But he continues to have other traits, a friendship with Bender and likes Leela throughout.
They also manage to wonderfully explore his relationship with his family and his dog. His past is a huge part of who he is even though it occurs 1000 years prior.
The show is just so dang good.
I have yet to watch the new episodes. I will at some point though. My favorite characters are the profession and zap. I also love calculon
i like how you are praising futurama while also very clearly pissing on simpsons.
disenchantment just got it's fifth season,.. where does that one land for you?
I like disenchantment but it has a fatal flaw, ironically that fatal flaw was something that was brought up in an episode of Futurama.
Generally I'm comedy shows, specially ones like the Simpsons. At the end of the episode, or start if the new one, everything returns the same. There is a default that doesn't change. Disenchantment ditches that, and it's one long story that keeps on going. So if you go back and watch a random episode, you have no idea what's going on.
Ironically in an episode in Futurama, they mention this concept. Fry says it at the end of a episode as a joke.
