I've been working on improving my health and slowly getting into shape. Maybe it'll just be a me thread, but figured it couldn't hurt to have a place to talk about health.

For almost the past year, I've been playing PS5 while using an exercise bike.

Been trying to get fit again for a while but lack motivation  :'(

so like,.. for a very long time my fitness was swing dancing.   ...but then the pandemic happened and my studio and the area's main club closed and the entire scene basically died.

i was very bad about fitness since then and i finally reached my breaking point of feeling like crud.  my new years resolution for this year was to do "something" about it and i've been pretty good about it.   my "something" ended up being that netflix recommended the nike training club so i tried it out and i liked it:
https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/nike-training-club

after working through the entry level stuff i'm now basically cyling though this particular set of videos:
https://www.netflix.com/title/81647606

i do those videos 5 days a week + some moderate exercise elsewhere in my life like being a soccer coach.

i'm not "lifting" but also i can't lift.  ..or do yoga.  i've got a disability that keeps me from doing much in the way of upper body exercise due to several restriction in my left arm's range of motion.  i'm going more for "tone" because having huge muscles would make my disability even more noticeable and i don't want that.    ...besides, the "arnold schwarzenegger" body looks gross to me.  i'd rather have more of a "dancer's" body:

i'm getting close.   i've got some pretty defined abs now but a bit to much belly fat to see it.  i've reduced that belly fat a lot though and i think it won't be long before i get (for the first time in my life) a visible "six pack".

I try to workout with kettlebells daily.  Been lacking the past month but getting back into the swing of it.  Focusing primarily on body composition changes and less about my weight. I have absolutely no desire to look super shredded, but want my heart health to go up, endurance up, and muscle definition.

To me kettlebells are the absolute goat for just getting into shape and not focusing on big big and muscular

I also have a standing desk cause even just 8-10 hours of sitting is not great for you. Even if you workout daily.

I'd say i can see the outlines of at least 4-6 abs and my serratus but still too much body fat to be really defined.  I'm working on it.

dang mexican food and pizza are my downfall. heh

I used to run  and I hit my goal of running a half marathon in under 2 hours. Since then, 2011, I lost motivation. I'm a builder so my work is quit physical but I don't do any cardio any cardio and eat too much crud. I have tried a number of times to get back into running but only lasts for a few weeks.

I do most everything you can do with dumbbells and also compound lifts like deadlifts and squats.  But i'll usually do different variations everyday. Like elevating my heels which helps get your knees over toes to help your knees.

But on top of those standard things i do tons of bell swings, snatches, cleans which those all have tons of variations to change it up.

These are some of the people i follow that i take and tweak their workouts. Or follow them exact.

That kettlebell_programming guy does nothing but kettlebells.  The others still incorporate other equipment but are primarily kettlebells

Also don't forget to floss! Dental health is important too!!!

My brother does that. He has it set to really low resistance though so he doesn't get tired. More about just moving I guess.

I need to incorporate more exercises into my workout. I started with absolutely zero upper body strength so I just wanted to make sure I could exercise consistently first.

Not sure I'd want to do kettlebells though haha. I've been doing bench press, bicep curls, and lateral raises which are way more "static" than most of the exercises in those videos.

oh for sure.  Always need to have a base before branching too far out.   I was hesitant on kettlebells at first.

If you ever do branch out always start really light with bells even if you feel you could go heavier.  They are a whole different ball game with their movements.  They are really great for stability because of the swinging.

i always get so bored with the more "bodybuilding" style of working out.  I wear a heart rate strap and i usually avg about 700-800 calories burnt in about an hour.  Give or take.

I try to crank it up.

Would be nice to find other exercises that could be done while gaming.

I don't really have any interest in exercising by itself.
