Nah it's a great movie. Sweet camera work and intense plot. I'd recomend it if you're in the mood for a unique experience.

That's because people don't appreciate AI.

When they think of AI, they think of bad AI taking over the world. Terminator, 2001 Space Odessy, Her, I.Robot, Avengers, The Matrix, Portal, Eagle Eye, etc. all paint the emergence of AI in a bad picture. There are lots of good AIs within stories too, but most of those focus on post creation. Cortana from Halo is nice and the game makes you feel for her, but she's always been fully developed. Her creation isn't covered.

So to me, I'm fascinated by the birth of artificial consciousness. It's incredible in all meanings of the word. To someone who appreciates AI and thinks of its creation as a wonderful step forward both for science and society, they're way more likely to love the film. If you think of creating AI as a foolish act that will lead to our doom, then you're starting the film with the wrong mindset and will most likely not appreciate the beauty of Chappie's "birth."

Then on top of it of course you just have personal preferences about how the movie deals with it. Only part I didn't love was the last two seconds.

Spoiler for Hidden:
Started out great and romantical. Then started to get really intense. Then by the time the ending came along, I wanted to roll myself in a ball.
Overall great film, but I feel disturbed.
