smh you just showed that you don't enter the Nintendo community thread
Liking it so far but the single island thing is really stupid.

Guessing you didn't watch the AC direct.

I knew about it but hadn't realized how bad it is till playing it myself.
The second person misses out on 90% of the game.

What's the "it" you mean? I was referring to the fact that in the direct they showed off features like visiting other people's islands and doing island tours where you get to go to random non-player islands, meet new villagers and find new fauna and flora. Stuff like that.
What do you mean by second person? I think the fact that multiple users on the same Switch have to share one island is definitely bad. At least should have been an option to have your own.
What is that?
There is one save file per switch, not one save file per account.
If family or friends share a system then only one of them can fully play the game. The rest are forced to be secondary players.

Yeah multiple people on the same switch.
It is broken, not just bad. Additional players are treated as secondary and cannot fully play the game. Intro gets skipped and most progression is shared.
7.4 user review right now due to the single island per switch.

Oh yikes I didn't realise it was that bad. What an unbelievable design decision, how could Nintendo mess this up so much?
it's makes a lot of sense. 2 save files would take up a an extra 5 mb of data and nintendo would have to develop a screen that allows people to pick which save file they are intending to play.
while technically possible,.. that is just too much effort for a nintendo title.

Lazy devs don't exist. Just devs that stick to budgets.
It's frustrating because this isn't that though. The devs put in extra work to make this feature. It's a cool concept but not fleshed out enough to be forced as the only option.

who blamed the developers? i clearly stated nintendo,.. since laziness permeates almost all nintendo titles it clearly is a corporate mandate not any specific development team.

Honey your fanboy is showing.

it's not really fanboy,.. it's hatred of nintendo i've harbored since nintedo's era of false promises (aka wii).

Well as long as you realise its irrational and your generalisations are hilariously off-base for the majority of Nintendo's output.

didn't you read the part where I owned a wii?
it is neither irrational or off-base. it was what nintendo (failed to) give me in that generation and it is how the continue to operate for a majority of their software.

It doesn't matter who you blame between the publishers and developers, my point is that this feels like a different situation compared to the usual budget conscious decisions Nintendo games make.
Switch has user management built into the OS in a comparable way to PS4. Separate save files per user are "free" while a single save file per system would have taken a lot of work to set up.
This is seemingly
just bad game design.

okay, you played this and i did not. i'll take your word for it.
Man I'm super super loving this game. There's so many quality improvements over the past titles like the Nook Miles system, and it just feels so nice to be growing and looking after your own island. I feel like I'm going to play this quite a lot over the next few weeks.

It has a great charm to it.
I'm also liking the real world waiting periods better than I expected. It's kinda fun how the whole community is playing it day by day. Next time I turn it on I should have a museum, a shop, and an upgraded house waiting for me.

It really really sucks, but it's a different kind of sucking haha.
Would you guys say normal switch is a must or is switch lite good?

Why would switch lite be a problem?

I mean as a console in general

If you have no friends and don't need to play on TV, lite is good.

Sounds about right 8)
Srsly though I think it would be fun if my daughter could play something with me in 1-2 years

Yeah the community stuff is amazing. I also kinda love the real world wait times. The whole community learning what's new in the next day is so awesome.

The game looks way better in handheld mode so switch lite is definitely great.
I'm enjoying it!

What about for switch in general? I heard you could buy joycons for lite as well but they're expensive af. Might as well buy 2 lites eventually (similar price as one normal)...

Switch is so worth it. I absolutely love being able to pick it up and play led in bed or on the sofa and then putting it on my TV in a matter of seconds. Split screen with the joycons works super well on the TV as well. Its just an awesome console, couldn't recommend the regular Switch highly enough.
This game is frickin EVERYWHERE. I don't know if I've ever seen this before. Its exploding on twitch, so many of the channels I follow are playing it. Its all over social media as well, the community aspect definitely helps.
I think the sales of this game are gonna go supernova. 5m+ first week sell-through and 20m+ lifetime for sure I think.

I do love lots of the corny jokes.

Apparently it may have a 2 million debut at retail in Japan. With digital could potentially be the largest opening for a game in Japan's history.
This Easter event seems to have backfired big time, everyone hates it. Basically there's too many eggs everywhere that are taking the place of other things which people used to make money, plus its a constant annoyance. If you try to fish now its just eggs, eggs, eggs. It was kind of funny that junk looked and behaved exactly like a fish before you pulled it out of the water but now with all these eggs it just feels like bad game design.
The event lasts 12 days and people are already wanting it to be over.

Now that I've had a lot more time with it and experienced stuff like the above, it's kinda crazy how bad the game side of AC:NH is.
It's wonderful to hangout inside the Animal Crossing world. Everything is very chill and it has some darn good vibes. I really love just walking around the museum for example. It's literally a paradise island. Yet playing it like a video game kinda sucks.

Yeah I know what you mean. The game has exactly 0 QoL features, it seems like the gameplay is a decade behind modern standards when it comes to ease of use and general function. shame like crafting multiple items is so dang tedious.
This could be a 9.5/10+ game for me but right now it feels more like an 8 or 8.5. I really love it but dang there's so much improvement possible.
