Something caused cpanel to attempt to make a full website backup, even though those are disabled and haven't happened for years (I use a different backup method).
This used up all available memory on the server and stopped the forum from working. I noticed this when it first happened but I misattributed the outage to high traffic and figured it'd fix itself after an hour at most. The good news is that the frontpage of the website never went down.
