AC is a hard one because I usually think critics are way too harsh on it. It seems like with the whole bioware RPG style stuff and the much more expansive ship sections this one should be higher, but you never know.

I think I'll go back and calculate scores from previous games but consider that the pre-season. I'm not sure everyone was on the same page with the high and low predictions.
After Origins, I think critics might be ready to give this one a higher score. Fans really loved that game. At the same time, this game could have too many mechanics and feel a little messy.

Much like Origins my first impressions of the game are extremely positive. Absolutely loving the game so far. Hopefully it doesn't go downhill like Origins did towards the end though...

How is the combat compared to Origins? Do you still have the same crafting systems?

Combat is pretty much exactly the same. Haven't seen any crafting yet since I'm getting loads of loot but the materials are still in the game.
Ship stuff is basically exactly Black Flag so far... which is brilliant of course. iirc I think there's more upgrading and customisation to be done here though. I don't think enemy ship variety will be as good though but we'll see.
Upgrades are done nicer than Origins. So you can still upgrade your gears level if you want to but you also get loads of loot so you'll pretty much always have gear at your level anyway, you only want to upgrade any legendaries/ super good stuff you can find. You can also "engrave" every bit of gear you get which is basically equipping a rune for a percentage stat boost.
Final metacritic is 83.
