Title: The community puzzle thread
Post by: SWORDF1SH on Sep 10, 2017, 12:29 PM
Work together (or alone) to solve the puzzle. Whoever works out the puzzle has to create the next one. The OP will be updated with the current ongoing puzzle.

This doesn't seem to be that easy!

I think it's fair for us to work together.

I like the idea of the thread, but a lot of these puzzles arent really that great.

If it's a sequence, there's an issue that there's an infinite number of possible answers. Same with sets.

The answer could be "the sequence of numbers that I came up with."

OK, but the person who works it out has to make the next puzzle. I've updated the clue in op.

I'm sure you guys will find this one easy. I'll come up with a better one next time.

3,4,6,1

2,2,1,Y
1,3,X,4

What is x and y?

And for the hint that probably makes it too easy.

Each line shares some property, and there is a relationship between each line.

I got a riddle:
A man was shot, drowned, and hung in 1 day. How did he go to dinner that night?
I don't like riddles.
-He was shot, drowned, and hung after dinner.
-He was shot in a nerf gun game, drowned by the love of his family and his wife attests to him being hung. He made it to dinner that night because his wife loves him.
-He was murdered by a maniac, who wore his face to dinner.
-He was tragically killed, and his distraught wife carried him like a puppet to the dinner. Unable to cope with his murder.
-He was shot by a camera, the film with him on it was drowned to develop it, and his face was hung on the wall.
-He was shot in a nerf gun game, drowned by the love of his family and he was hung up on what the answer to the trivia game was!
-He was shot by a water gun, he was drowned by the stress of his job, and he was hung on the monkey bars. He made it to the dinner because his wife loved him enough to get him down.

You have just been allowed to leave prison.

There is a guard next to each of these doors. One is a liar the other is truthful.

I'm assuming he went dead.

@Pi

Your clue has me going in the wrong direction: trying to find some way the 4 numbers in a row are related with those 4 symbols. Ie 7+5=12, 7-5=3, 7×5=35(but it's 2), and 7/5 rounds to 1.

So I'm guessing that the numbers represent letters since Legend referred to my puzzle. If that's the case, the numbers can represent 6 combination of letters if the 0 could represent a space or 3 if it doesn't.
EIDA-BAC
EIDA-BM
EIDA-UC
EIDJBAC
EIDJUC
EIDJBM
So if I'm barking up the right tree, we are looking at an anagram.

Honestly, the challenging part is figuring out what the goal point is.

I came up with two puzzles based off the one. The only difference is for one puzzle I'd change one of the digits and the other has one less digit.
But the same picture otherwise is the puzzle.

Same set up, wildly different ways about going out about it.

These puzzles are like blindly trying to find something in a room full of toys. You know when you don't have anything, but you are never really sure if you are close to picking up the right toy, or even if you are looking for a toy at all.

Ya these types of puzzles work best imo when a large group work together on them. That way each person only needs to try out a couple ideas and progress is much nicer to luck into.

What close solutions did you find? The actual one is pretty stupid but statistically I wouldn't think other probable answers exist.

Red herring

Is the answer: "Hi Nerd"?

The puzzles I was looking at were pretty similar, except R=0, counting like you would for an array.

Then they involved switching letters around.

I think I must have gotten too elaborate before trying out simpler ones.

Honestly that wasn't as easy as you were thinking. Even knowing the answer, I was expecting it to be about the letters between the letters or something. But I see what you did.

By the way, is the line from something? I feel like I've seen it before in like a typing book.

I'm still working on Pi's but there's also this

Thargoid Code decrypting MEGATHREAD : EliteDangerous (https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/72mbl0/thargoid_code_decrypting_megathread/)
What have you figured out?

Is this thread dead?

I'm going to give a (BIG) hint just in case:

this is pretty much all of it.
Spoiler for Hidden:
Each 2 numbers corresponds easily with a prime number, and each prime number corresponds with a letter.

Quote
You visit a remote desert island inhabited by one hundred very friendly dragons, all of whom have green eyes. They haven't seen a human for many centuries and are very excited about your visit. They show you around their island and tell you all about their dragon way of life (dragons can talk, of course).

They seem to be quite normal, as far as dragons go, but then you find out something rather odd. They have a rule on the island which states that if a dragon ever finds out that he/she has green eyes, then at precisely midnight on the day of this discovery, he/she must relinquish all dragon powers and transform into a long-tailed sparrow. However, there are no mirrors on the island, and they never talk about eye color, so the dragons have been living in blissful ignorance throughout the ages.

Upon your departure, all the dragons get together to see you off, and in a tearful farewell you thank them for being such hospitable dragons. Then you decide to tell them something that they all already know (for each can see the colors of the eyes of the other dragons). You tell them all that at least one of them has green eyes. Then you leave, not thinking of the consequences (if any). Assuming that the dragons are (of course) infallibly logical, what happens?

If something interesting does happen, what exactly is the new information that you gave the dragons?

90697 is a prime number and is a factor of both 350915094105 and 390095.

Think I'm doing it wrong.

You're doing it wrong.
But that's still fun!

Hint:
Some number of digits uniquely corresponds to a prime number which uniquely corresponds to a letter.

The digits to prime numbers is easy, don't over think it.

That's the other clue I was using to work it out, basically you gave us the answer there.

I got another riddle:

You have just been allowed to leave prison.
They give you 2 doors.
One door is freedom, the other door is death.
There is a guard next to each of these doors. One is a liar the other is truthful.
How would you know which door to go through?
There was a question to ask that gives you the answer. I don't remember what it was.

If the liar only lies, then just ask one guard if the other guard would say the first door is safe. It guarantees the response will be wrong since it goes through both guards.

Or you could ask the guard if VizionEck will be released 2018 and if he/she says yes then you know they are lying.

Ouch. Time proved you right, enjoy your upvote.

Part of my puzzle is the Konami code. There is more to it than just that.

Also PS1 was my first console.

No, the solution is that I made a puzzle game with codes.

But you do have to play TPS to find out what the code does.
