How do you feel about alternative vision modes?

A lot of games offer different vision modes to give hints to the player, or otherwise help them.

There are lots of differences to how that is handled per game. Some are more overlays and some are complete vision changes. They are fairly common in games, but I feel like they aren't very well liked.

Are there any that you hate/like in particular?

mostly hate them all.

buy a game with fantastic graphics.  play the game in high contrast mode.

I feel like my experience has been taken from me if I have to play the game in these high contrast modes.  plus these modes almost never have a simple toggle.  I'm forced to retrigger it every 5 seconds or so and it's exhausting.

it's way "more graphics" isn't always a good thing.  I think of the need of this mode to reflect a failure in art design.

There needs to be someway to let the player know what is interactable and what is set dressing. Constantly on things like sparkles or glow patterns were fine but don't work as well in immersive realistic games, so alternative vision modes make sense.

I just wish like kittler said that these modes were handled better.
