Using VR to preserve certain monuments like this, it's amazing
I tried out a couple of the YouTube VR videos for the Notre Dame Cathedral.
It was such a mix of:
WOW! The future is amazing.
And wow some of this kind of sucks.
I'm not actually sure how much of the resolution problem was because of the headset and how much was due to the app or my internet. It felt worst than my headset usually is.
Positionally tracking isn't really possible in videos like that. Which leaves a lot to be desired... It's great for distance, but the closer you are to something the more jarring it is.
It feels like we are so close to reaching the point where seeing monuments in VR is almost as good as seeing it in real life.
But there are still some major problems holding it back.
