Oh, it does matter. I've added a little to my post above.

I mean if that's how you want to interpret it. I just see it was mere boasting in an attempt to distract consumers' attention from the Pro to the Scorpio. A year gap is a lot of time. We have two precedents where having a year head start can have a significant effect on sales and consumer mindshare: PS2 vs Xbox, PS3 vs 360.

We see on Amazon that the Pro is doing great. We have also gotten assessments from OsirisBlack and Abdiel that implies very high preorder numbers at Best Buy, Gamestop, and Walmart. PSVR is doing well relative to the Oculus and Vive. It sold a third of what Vive has sold so far in just Japan.

This is why I think Microsoft's recent statements are (poor) counters against the Pro's hype and PSVR as a way to divert mindshare. It's not just the Pro that is getting a headstart, but also PSVR. Before, Phil Spencer said that he doesn't want to be distracted by VR. However, it appears that the company is currently distracted by PSVR.

Yes, I do agree in general. I've never seen a company so obviously worried about another product and who is willing to show it quite blatantly in their PR.
