I thought Sony E3 conference was bad.

Well Nintendo always surprises me Sony E3 conference looks ok now :D

Left 4 dead did something like that with AI. Also I'm pretty sure there was another game I've read about that worked that way.

It's cool but it's too "fake" for me. Same with just making the player feel powerful. I'm specifically talking about it from a game theory perspective where the player has full knowledge of the situation and is thinking rationally.

Bars are the best! You seem to like games as an "experience" for lack of a better word. It's about casually enjoying your time. I mostly ignore stats and optimizing in games, but I still tend to prefer games structured with clear cause and effect. As the player I can decide to play it casually but I know the game isn't cheating me. Like how Naughty Dog is moving towards having more systems and dynamics visible to their players. I wouldn't want Uncharted to have a health bar but I love having one in TLOU. TLOU2 is taking this further with a stealth gauge. The HUD doesn't just show if you're hidden; it shows how well you're hidden.

*I'm tired and rambling. Sorry in advance if this is gibberish

it's not gibberish but we're not talking to quite the same point either.

lfd isn't quite what i had in mind. the actual AI in lfd is terrible.  all they did was create procedural spawn points based on very simple pacing algorithm.

lstm is the heart of how google was able to book a haircut over the phone with a digital AI assistant.  basically you provide it a sequence and it learns the sequence well enough to predict the next element of the sequence quite well.  it's good enough to feel like a human level of intelligence.  honestly, the early desire for multiplayer was a concession at the time that computer AI sucked.  today the AI could be as adaptive as a human.

you can still have a causal game experience with this too.  the algorithm has a "learning rate".  basically you can tune the algorithm to be as slow to learn as a toddler or as amazing at the smartest gamer in the world.  so you could still support a "easy", "normal", "hard" difficulty setting.

not that every game ever should take this route.  but at least 1 game should have explored this idea by now.  machine learning is pretty far along at this point.

AC Details:

  • This is the biggest map in any Assassin's Creed game (probably not too surprising). There are lots of different biomes (forest, beast, snowy mountains).
  • There are map regions that are separate from the main storyline and have self contained plotlines you can choose to engage in.
  • The game is made by ten different studios: Ubisoft Quebec (Lead, made AC: Syndicate), Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft Montpellier, Ubisoft Kiev, Ubisoft Bucharest, Ubisoft Shanghai, Ubisoft Pune, Ubisoft Singapore, Sperasoft, and Technicolor Games (the last two are contractors).
  • The game will have a live service with post launch updates similar to Origins.
  • They're not talking about if Discovery Tour is in yet, which implies it's in.
  • They're going all in on modern day content, though based on another interview, it sounds like it's optional this time.
  • They have more quests where you can solve them non-violently. I'll just quote this one here. "We have a few quests where the objective is 'deal with it.'" he said. "For example, 'this guy owes me money, ok, deal with it.' You can go there and kill him and take the money. Or you can go and ask. Or loot the treasure box in his house."
  • Some of the romance options are with people who are already in relationships, so going and romancing the person can mess with their other relationships.
  • The game has "30 hours of interactive storytelling". To be clear, they're not talking about the length of the game here. There are 13 different ways to interact with people in conversations (with the number of options per conversation varying).
  • "Most characters in the game can join your ship's crew". This includes most enemies and many civilians. They will offer stat bonuses and perks. They can also serve as land based distractions for stealth players.
  • They redid stealth so it's worthwhile experience point wise and gave you a lot more stealth options ability wise.
  • You can now map 4+ moves to face buttons (or bumpers) so you have way more options in combat. The skills and abilities are also notably more in-depth in terms of what they do, especially after you upgrade them.
  • There's a city state based power system where you can kill regional leaders to weaken a city state, which not only makes the actual leader of the city state easier to kill, but can also trigger things like an invasion from neighboring city states who want to take over. There are 27 city states in total.
  • There will be battles with up to 300 combatants. Get it? Get it???
  • The game has multiple endings.

I can't stand this boring gameplay.

AC is not for me... I even forced me to Platinum's two games after give up on AC1 and AC2 just to make sure I was not wrong about it.

Each to their own I guess. I find AC to be nowhere near boring.

AC origins changed some things.

This however sounds like a fully new game that's playing dress up as AC. I love all those details you posted.

I wish ubi would just make a new RPG. They clearly want to add some fantasy elements, so why not just make a full new fantasy RPG? That would be great.

Yeah it sounds like a great game with great changes, but its not an Assassin's Creed game anymore. They should be making traditional assassin's creed games as well as this. This should just be a different RPG series.
