Jeez. Will the Nintendo switch outsell the Wii U in Japan in it's first year?

No but my guess is it won't be very far from it.

Depends on stock.  I still can't judge if it's a lack of interest from people in Japan or if Nintendo didn't send enough units.  I mean, I was at least expecting PS4 numbers to go down, but they've been steady.

Nintendo financial results looking strong, 2.74 million Switches shipped and 2.76 million units of Zelda on Switch shipped (lol), something like $900 million in net profit.

Capcom not looking as good, sales and profits are up, but they missed every single sales goal for their big releases. RE7: 3.5 million instead of 4, Monster Hunter XX: 1.7 million instead of 2, Dead Rising 4 below 1 million when they expected to sell 2.

Kerotan

Hopefully ps4 doesn't go any lower.  Sony should bundle a digital copy of Horizon with the slim and pro over the summer.

For RE7, I'm going to say that they probably should have anticipated less. The franchise name had been run through the mud and the marketing for it wasn't exactly "in your face". Now, Monster Hunter XX on the other hand, that's surprising to see it miss a sales goal of 2 million. Really not surprised about DR4.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if the lack of coop and the push for super horror is what caused the lower sales.  I think Capcom was being conservative considering RE6 is their third highest selling title, even after the trolling RE 5 got.

Reggie: NES Classic has sold 2.3 million units, discontinuing to focus on future - NeoGAF

Quote
Quote
According to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé, the total global sell-in for Nintendo's pint-sized version of its 1980s Nintendo Entertainment System is 2.3 million. The last official figure we've seen arrived several months ago, when the company said it had sold 1.5 million NES Classic units worldwide. At that point, the presumption was that the system would continue to be sold indefinitely.

Quote
"We had originally planned for this to be a product for last holiday," Fils-Aimé told TIME. "We just didn't anticipate how incredible the response would be. Once we saw that response, we added shipments and extended the product for as long as we could to meet more of that consumer demand."
Which leads to the 2.3 million sold figure, a very respectable achievement for a system that plays games three decades old. When I asked Fils-Aime about the potential for the NES Classic to resurface as a product in future years, he declined to add anything to Nintendo's existing statement, which stipulates that the company has "no plans to produce more NES Classic Edition systems for NOA regions."
But Fils-Aime did suggest the reason why the company pulled the brakes on a system amidst unprecedented demand. "Even with that extraordinary level of performance, we understand that people are frustrated about not being able to find the system, and for that we really do apologize," he said. "But from our perspective, it's important to recognize where our future is and the key areas that we need to drive. We've got a lot going on right now and we don't have unlimited resources."

...yeah. I'm sure it's real hard to find the resources to keep selling something people want. Again, I definitely feel like this was done because they think it's going to eat into virtual console sales of these games. Which they will charge a lot more for. Because there is no other explanation for discontinuing such a product that millions of people want that you just introduced and cannot be expensive at all to manufacture. I mean, why not just stop selling Breath of the Wild at this point? It's $60. Millions have bought it and millions still want it. But you MUST focus on your future, Nintendo. Because easy money like this is for chumps.

Kerotan

Personally I thibk Nintendo understand there's demand to sell probably up to 5m of their old consoles.  I doubt they want to meet all that demand now.  They'll probably release another classic this holiday and in years to come they'll return to this year's one.
