Spacex has been trying for a while with this from full orbit, but just today Blue Orign beat them to the punch with a successful test. Even though their rocket didn't go into orbit, it's still incredible.
This technology will make space travel get much much much cheaper. Will be just a few years IMO before it's pretty common for non human trips.
