2.0 is getting close guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been in the plans since November, and this past week I hammered out some of the biggest features remaining. I'm excited and want to share my progress dang nabbit!

First off I rebuilt the forum index/recent forum posts. On the home page it operates practically the same. Searches every board and finds the most recent topics. Now however a local index exists for every board and category too. For example the gaming index shows recent posts from all gaming related boards, be it news, community, or dev blog.

The new indexes may also be sorted in ascending or descending order by subject, started by, replies, views, and last post.

I've also rebuilt Live View from the ground up. On the tech side of things it's better than ever!!! It uses a fraction of the data required by its predecessor, only about 10MB per hour. Meanwhile it sends about 500 times the information. Posts show up in just 100 milliseconds. That's fast.

Live View 2.0 is pretty on the outside too. It now has full BBC support including a rich text entry reply field. Pictures, links, full paragraphs, etc. can all be posted with ease! But what if, you might ask, the thread is moving rapidly and you are having trouble clicking a link? Or what if missed a post and it's already off the top of the page? Have no fear! 2.0 contains the posts within a separate scroll box. Simply scroll up view any/every post made during your live view session. New posts are simply added once you scroll back down.

Oh, and one more thing. You can highlight and copy the text! It's not refreshing 24/7 like the old version.

Unless I die or screw something up, 2.0 will take over before E3.

may i ask why we are doing a 2.0 version?   what does the new version allow that we are being hindered by right now?   backend stuff?

The forum is powered by open source software called simple machines. They've been working on a new version for like 5 years now, and should release it within a year.

The problem is that upgrading the core software breaks all the custom modifications I've made. They needed to be ported over manually.

So I had to rewrite most forum features simply to keep them from dissapearing. Found it best to just fix and upgrade the features while I was at.

Plus I'm using 2.0 as an opportunity to add new features that people have wanted during the past 6 months.

that makes sense then.

i think a really cool feature would be if every time someone embedded a video there was a small chance the video redirected pornhub upon view.

Oh wow haha I just discovered a bug in 1.0 that we've had for practically a year yet no one noticed.

You can't post "0" on its own.

Fixed for 2.0

Clever ;)

Yeah that's because it's trying to convert an array to string.

Turns out not only did that "0" bug stop small posts, but it broke the entire HTML to BBC converter!

Link bots are up and running. They find all lazy links in posts and convert them to proper links with accurate titles. Then for each link the bot reads your post to see if you explained the link or not. If not, then it copies the article/linked entity over for you.

Right now it's copying the full amount, but I want to get it down to just a summary. GAF and chertz links to posts are fine to show the whole post, but articles should definitely just be short tastes of the content.

Image thumbnails are good!!!!!

All moderately large images have thumbnails automatically made for them. Clicking the thumbnail loads up the full image.

Full res image is not loaded unless clicked, so this saves tons of bandwidth. Each user has the option to just show images natively as well.

In quotes all images are shown as thumbnails, regardless of user options. This is a much better version of how we currently do it with spoiler tags.
