It's stupid how many $60 games are having microtransactions

Forza has a horrible amount of them, Shadow of War has a horrible amount of them, Destiny 2 has a horrible amount of them, Battlefront 2 has a horrible amount of them, etc. The list goes on and on.

This isn't new either. Halo 5, Gears 4, and Uncharted 4 were also full of microtransactions.

What are your thoughts?

Well the cost of making games is rising. As long as it doesn't affect my game I don't care much, because I don't buy them

But they do affect the game. Every other element is rebalanced to push microtransaction sales. I don't buy them either but it's always so disheartening to see them while playing. Completely wrecks the immersion for me and makes goals lose importance.

It is nice to get free stuff because whales are footing the bill. I don't think that's sustainable but for the moment it can be a positive.

I don't mind micro-transactions as long as they are visual only, but of course many aren't

I don't appreciate them.

I did my part to fight against them. I posted an image against microtransactions in retail games on reddit back in 2013. The world just didn't listen.  :'(

...lol

Ludicrous Speed

As long as they don't warp the gameplay for those unwilling to pay, I'm fine with it.

Uncharted 4 had it? I hope it didn't screw the MP up. Last of Us is one of the biggest examples I can think of where a great, actually phenomenal MP was ruined by microtransactions.

People are still really upset about this, and now are moving on to hating Star Wars for it. Lots of top reddit posts right now about this.

Good explanation. It's not gambling because you always get something

I wouldn't define it as identical to casino gambling either, but they have enough in common that microtransactions should be legally restricted imo.

Anyway I'm bumping this thread because man have things exploded. At this point I'd be shocked if nothing comes out of this building frustration. Hopefully it's something positive.

Buy the right to buy microtransactions or get the Micro Edition for just $99

Yeah, record breaking back lash will mean something.  There's a ton of coverage in gaming media about how bad the Reddit backlash, so it's not just a Reddit thing.

I think they should just rise the standard price in games and drop microtransactions. They should only be a thing in free to play games or for purely cosmetic items only.

I'd personally prefer games to be made cheaper and without some of the extras if it's really that necessary. Trim the fat and focus on the core experience.

That.
