See I really got invested in the quest. I even ran off blindly to the bird village just so I could get that person.
I loved seeing the progress and the "upgrades" to the town, seeing it getting more and more finished. Then it just ends and the work seems superficial.
Didn't want a material reward, because that'd just be a game mechanic. I just wanted that abstract feeling of accomplishment.

Just looking at the town, and talking to the people I influenced to go there made me get that feeling of accomplishment.
