Electronic Arts' shareholders are running for the hills this month and for good reason. The company's profitable business model is now at risk after angry gamers revolted over its aggressive in-game moneymaking strategy in "Star Wars Battlefront II." EA's stock is down 8.5 percent month to date through Tuesday compared with the S&P 500's 2 percent gain, wiping out $3.1 billion of shareholder value. Its competitors Take-Two and Activision Blizzardshares are up 5 percent and 0.7 percent respectively during the same time period. After EA gave a Dec. quarter sales forecast slightly below Wall Street estimates on Oct. 31, some analysts suspected it was due to the Stars Wars title. The shares fell 4 percent the following day.Click to expand...

Well I guess they are feeling the sting a little bit then. This is still nothing compared to how their stock has increased recently though.

How can their stock go up if it went down?  You can't go down in a negative direction.

He means that they've seen plenty of increases lately, even with the decreases this month they are still largely doing well.

They are down for the month, but way up for the year.

That's 3 billion dollars, how far up are they this year?  O_O

Eyeballing the graph, their stock must be up about 5 billion for the year (after 3 billion drop).  So 8 billion before the drop. I

Danish Gambling Authority rules that BFII lootboxes are not gambling, but expresses "concerns" | ResetEra

Adopt-a-user thread on behalf of SFLUFAN  The Danish Gambling Authority said that while the BFII lootboxes do not meet its criteria for gambling, "they will follow developments as loot boxes are typically found in games aimed at children."https://www.pcinvasion.com/danish-g...ttlefront-2-loot-boxes-not-gambling-concerned

The organisation has set out three criteria to ascertain whether a loot box can be considered gambling or not and these determine whether they are covered by the Danish gaming act. The three criteria are:
  • There must be a deposit
  • There must be an element of coincidence
  • There must be a win (if the prize is a fictitious item, it should be able to translate it into financial terms).
In other words, if the item cannot be sold for real money it could not be considered gambling. The statement then goes on to cite other examples which they do consider gambling and why Star Wars Battlefront 2 does not fall into the same category.Click to expand...
