Apparently, Ubisoft is having so much trouble with the online portion of the game working on Switch that they had to bring in Nintendo to help them figure out how to solve the problems. It seems as though the issue is so bad, that Ubisoft isn't even confident it can make Steep work on Switch. One indication that the game may never end up releasing on the platform is that when an expansion for the game was announced at E3 2017, no Switch version was mentioned. This might not have been terribly unusual if the Switch version's very existence wasn't announced until then, but the problem is it was announced before the console was released back in early March. So this version of the game had been known about long before E3. Word is that Ubisoft may very well just cancel the game altogether, if it hasn't already.
