Hello,
This week Hello Games will be releasing the next content update for No Man's Sky. We're calling it the Path Finder Update; it introduces a new vehicle that will aid home planet exploration, building on the Foundation Update to hint at a path ahead for the future.
Detailed patch notes will be released when the update goes live.
Shortly after we launched the Foundation Update, we released a number of patches to address issues reported by players before beginning work on the Path Finder update. We were surprised and excited by the response to Foundation, and we have been listening carefully to community feedback since then.
To those of you who have spent time sharing feedback, whether positive or negative, we are listening.
This is the next step in our journey. It shows the path forward. We hope you'll join us.
 Thank you,
 Hello Games

I guess land vehicles confirmed?

I'm gonna let this and maybe some other updates come out before I jump back in.   Really like the base game, but got too repetitive so looking forward to this hopefully really expanding the game.

Hopefully it adds more than just the buggy. Better procedural generation would be cool.

Yeah if it's just a vehicle that will be disappointing.  I'm hoping they can at some point have those huge dinosaurs and cooler animals like at the E3 presentation.  I'm not hopeful that much that it will happen though.

Man, too little too late.
Are you forgetting the update prior to this? What about the update after this? Will it be too little too late too?

Short answer? Yes

People are done with No Man's Sky, they aren't coming back. After fudgy up the launch as monumentally as they did, having updates like this only trickling out months after the fact, just doesn't cut it.

You're wrong. The community has gotten stronger since the last update and Survival mode spawned thousands of vids with thousands of views. Unless you're a part of the community you're unlikely to know that so it's understandable you believe what you believe. It's a great game now and people are very happy with it.

No, it's an echo chamber of fans who already liked the game.

These patches help keep them happy but they don't bring back people who were significantly disappointed at launch.

Stats don't go back farther but I remember when the first patch dropped it was around 10k for a bit. Compare that to the ~200k at launch.

I doubt Hello Games expects to bring in many new players with anything past the Foundation update. That one got a lot of news because Sean had disappeared and nobody knew what was happening. This update and anything to follow will be just to improve the game for those who remain.

I'm all for new content and new modes of transport but there HAS to be a motive other than going through the motions of attaining the blue prints, amassing the ingredients and building said transport. At the end of the day it all comes down to the planet/galaxy/universe procedural generation.

We need unique, one off features on planets that are only found rarely
We need more variety of creatures with a bigger variety of behaviours
We need far more types of flora, some of which (again) only appear once in a blue moon
We need new features for caves like ice, lava, pitch darkness, more dangers
We need cave specific content to give us a reason to investigate them thoroughly
We need creatures that protect very rare caches of rare materials
We need villages and camps populated by different tribes, some bad, some good.
We need themed planets: Gothic, fantasy, mysterious etc.

There are many things they could add that would make exploration interesting. Although all of the above seem to suggest they're playing to the idea of staying in one place, I don't think that would be the case. I would be landing on every planet and exploring every solar system if I knew there were unique things to be found and experienced. As it stands at the moment I often just fly over a planet and immediately know what to expect. Give me the unexpected.

And don't just give us the blue prints randomly, make us have to work for them through quests and the such.

Ludicrous Speed

lol why bother. Might as well move on to their next project and hope it fares better. Why would you even want to explore planets? It's all so fudgy ugly.

Doesn't sound too bad but will be interesting to see how the things are actually implemented.

Shops/Merchants basically already exist unless they're doing something more with them.

Meaningful ship classes were one of the marketed features so that'd be cool to add them.

I'm more interested in the improved graphics to be honest. I play the game to explore and having more variety in topography and environments is welcome.

nnodley

If those graphics are on ps4 pro then WOW that looks a lot better now!

And nice blue skies!  Was there ever any planets that had blue skies like that?  i have never found any.
