I think the difference is that those reviews talk about how the port is unnecessary or things like that. Lots of skyward sword hd reviews trash the original. Also 93 to 81 is a lot bigger drop than 92 (3 games averaged) to 88.Skyrim's drop between the PS3/360 version and the PS4/XBO is pretty comparable.
I feel like that's the norm. I feel like it's unusual if a remaster/port/remake does as well as the original critically. The Uncharted remaster bundle scored lower than any individual Uncharted game in the bundle.I think the difference is that those reviews talk about how the port is unnecessary or things like that. I feel like that's also an issue that playing a game the second time around, usually isn't quite as fun/rewarding as the first time.
Demon's Souls Remake is a weird instance where the remake did notably better than the original.
It's not a Nintendo exclusive problem, but Skyward Sword is maybe the best proof of hype impacting a game's reviews. The game got a 93 on metacritic when it first released, yet the HD switch port got an 81. Most reviews talk about how the port is an improvement lol.I feel like that's the norm. This is clear evidence that anything Nintendo is reviewed with bias and they just get high scores because they are Nintendo franchisesIt's not a Nintendo exclusive problem, but Skyward Sword is maybe the best proof of hype impacting a game's reviews. that all sounds pretty lazy and not a game of not at all worthy of its 96 rating.Yeah it's a brutal lottery. Totk has so many weird minor flaws too. It has good stuff, I still think it's a 7/10, but it'll be interesting to see how it ages.
i'll never understand how some games get put though the ringer with even the most minor of flaws being blow out of proportion while other games can have massive problems and get praised to high heaven.
