My example is blowing in old cartridges.  
It is supposed to not be helpful, and in fact is definitely harmful.  

But it always seems to work.  

For example, I tried to put the game in several times, and it didn't work any time I tried.  
Fed up, I did the blowing trick and the game started up immediately.
